Today marks the fifth anniversary of the first detection of gravitational waves as predicted by Einstein more than 100 years ago. The gravitational waves were detected at 9:51UTC, Sep 14 2015 at the two LIGO observatories at Livingston and Hanford sites.
The discovery led the three scientists Rainer Weiss, Kip Thorne, and Barry Barish to be awarded Physics Nobel Prize in 2017.
If anyone is curious of how it sounds like on the detector instruments, listen here . Sounds like a bird chirp according to the scientists. Well I thought it sounded more like a submarine sonar pulse especially on the second run of the sound animation at higher frequencies.
Anyway, "Happy 5th Anniversary!"
