I was just reading about this and felt that this would be the perfect place to post it. I am amazed by all the space discoveries that we continue to make and I am hopeful for new and exciting discoveries to come.

That's quite a discovery. Thanks for posting it.
The gravitational lens modelling was done on GPUs and took only a few minutes. Moreover there were two lenses uncovered. The four images are known to be of the same object as they have identical spectra ( wrt wavelengths examined ) which, as they say, are rare and beautiful.
Cheers, Mike.

Also what would be really cool is if the galaxy being imaged by the gravitational lens had a supernova within. These can briefly outshine a galaxy. That way the four images would also show a supernova but with different lag times, as the light going to form each image has a different effective path length. For this reason let's hope that this Einstein cross gets some regular attention by the JWST. Some say that the JWST mission may last up to 20 years.
Cheers, Mike.

Awesome! Mike: didn't they use that effect once before in the past? Where they new of a constellation like this and then predicted they would see a certain event again x years down the line, allowing them to be al ready for it and having trained every available telescope on it to observe it in closer detail?
E pluribus unum
Yes it has happened before,

Yes it has happened before, which is what I remembered too. This way you'd get several shots at a time delayed image. It would be interesting to know what is the difference in the path lengths, but I don't see any mention in the original paper. What the paper also mentions is that they can reconstruct an un-lensed image of the hidden source galaxy using their modelling software.
Cheers, Mike.
