Not winning with a possible

Not winning with a possible big new headache just getting dumped on me at work.

Looks like I didn't miss anything here......after the first August wind storm here in my almost 58 years the power was out for 14 hours for what they say on the local radio was around 500,000 homes.

Mine came back on 15 minutes after midnight so I just fired up my 5 desktops (my laptop is under repair)

During the day as I was walking down my driveway picking up small branches and just walked by a bench we have to sit out by the rose garden I hear a CRACK (wind was blowing around 50mph at the time) and I looked behind me and the top had snapped off an old maple tree and is now across the driveway with the fat end still stuck up in the tree about 25ft up.

Depending on the weather I might pull that out of the way and saw it up.

I parked the 2 cars we have outside all the time out front in the middle of the front yard so no trees or branches could fall on them.

Other than that we were prepared since I knew it was going to at least rain so I put things like the John Deere away and anything else laying around........and none of my concrete projects flew away in the wind

Oh and the funny thing as you all know if the power goes out you can lose tasks that are running once in a while......a couple Win7 GPU's became errors and I aborted those but on a Win10 and the old XP Pro the GPU and VB tasks started right back up where they were

Hey, Phil, I forget, did you become engineer?

And did I tell you I made conductor at the museum?

And were you around when 765 was running to Lafayette in July?

And did I tell the rest of you about our Day Out With Thomas last month? We also had Percy for the first time. [goes back and looks; mentioned working Percy, but no details] Percy does not have a proper brake valve like Thomas. You can put it in emergency, but not do a good controlled stop. Glad I wasn't the conductor for that. I had the easiest job in the whole show: switchtender. I would throw a switch, stand back and watch the Thomas train go by, throw the switch back again, and go sit down or go in the air conditioned diner or go do whatever I felt like for the next 25 minutes. I didn't even have to be in uniform. This was on the two Saturdays. I worked Percy on the last Sunday, and it wasn't bad because Percy was an extra fare and didn't sell out, and the weather was cool for a change.

Right now, I'm tired. Been thinking for an hour and a half that my day should be over in a few minutes, and now it finally almost is.

@David Hey dude! Congrats

@David

Hey dude! Congrats on conductor. I hadn't read that you finished. Good stuff!

I'm about halfway thru my engineer training. I've finished Chicago and Van Loon, and will be done with Elkhart in a few days. Then on to Bellevue Ohio and Cincinnati to finish late this year. I can't wait!

I was actually in bed when the 765 came across our rail on it's way out. I live about a quarter mile from the rail yard where I work, and the diamond for all the mains is right behind me. So I heard it but didn't try to get dressed to go out. Never would have made it in time.

The museum for the 765 is only a few miles East of me, so we see it fairly often.

Next year you should come down to Fort Wayne and I'll take you out to the museum. Make it a day trip or something.

Laters.
