did it give you any choice in he matter? I see what look like a pause button and a stop button, but did you seem to have a choice of saying "no"?

That's not Win 10 downloading the driver, that's Nvidias GeForce Experience. A program to among other things help you check for driver updates and if found download and install them for you, so that's not a mandatory update, if it was Windows doing it it would show in the Windows update GUI.

My own Nvidia gpu in a Win10 machine is using this driver: NVIDIA GeForce driver: 353.62, so no Windows did not FORCE that driver download. My own GeForce Experience software did ask me the other day to download that driver but I said no, for now at least.

Ah, more good news!!! My

Ah, more good news!!! My upgrade log on Win 7 states that my upgrade to Win10 FAILED. It is now stuck in "downloading and preparing". sssh! I have restarted it. The disk activity led is flashing (maybe it is loose??) so I will wait and see where this leads.

That IS good news. From what I've been reading, Win 10 seems
to be nothing but a GIANT piece of Spyware.

You are, of course, right. But in a moment of weakness and in wanting to get this over with I did. Anyway I recovered but I could not use the Legal Win 7 disk. It said "I don't know that OS". So I rebooted into safe mode. Selected the last restore and up it came. Guess what happened next? It said "hey new update" and began downloading win 10 again. Only this time it completed in about 5 minutes or so and then "do you want to reboot". In another moment of weakness I said sure. This time the upgrade worked. It is a completely different look. I must admit I like it - the look that is. I had to reinstall some licensing data/keys for some apps. It running and I am composing this on an Ubuntu laptop. Buyer beware. I really thought I was going to have to spend a day to recover but not so.

I just stated that it was not Windows updating the driver in the picture, it's a picture showing GeForce Experience downloading the new driver. Never claimed that Windows wouldn't auto update drivers, the home version will do that, but you download the tool that allows you to temporarily prevent and update or driver from reinstalling to try to remedy a botched update. It can be found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

The only good thing to come

The only good thing to come out of all this Win 10 stuff is that it means a shed load of work for techies when the public go for it, and realise it wasn't what they thought, and can't roll back to Win 7 without help.
