Hi guys,
one of "my" computers has this configuration:
- WinXP 32bit
- integrated ATi (chipset 785G)
- nvidia GTS250
- boinc 6.12.26
I would like to use integrated gpu for normal "working" with computer, i.e. primary graphics, while nvidia ONLY for crunching.
The problem is that boinc cannot see nvidia when ati is a primary gpu, even when cc_config includes
1
When nvidia is a primary, boinc detects it well.
I had absolutely no problem to install drivers for both gpus. Ati was installed first.
Now I am stacked, because I do not have much opportunity to "play" with that comp and find a way how to do that.
Any idea?

Both Nvidia and Ati in PC - how to use nvidia only for crunching

you could try - and this is just a wild guess - to use:

[nvidia|ati]

This is scheduled to work in BOINC 6.13 which hasn't been released yet, not even for alpha testing. You might be able to download the preliminary source code for 6.13 and compile it.

Yes, I wanted to suggest that

Yes, I wanted to suggest that too, but then the nVidia GPU would be the primary device for non-BOINC processes too. Otherwise, the nVidia GPU isn't seen by BOINC and there's no sense in ignoring the only GPU. ;-)

oops!

Extending the Desktop onto the Nvidia GPU will enable Boinc to see it, then Boinc's use of the ATI can be disabled with the 0 option,

Claggy, what you mean by "Extending the Desktop onto the Nvidia GPU" ?
I am working on linux now and I cannot imagine exactly how to "extend that" ;-)
When I sit in front of that PC, there will not be much time for experiments, unfortunately.
Thanks.

I've got both my ATI's removed from my hosts at the moment, I'll refit my HD4650 in my XP3200/Win XP host in a while and get back to you,
It should be Select the Second Monitor and select Extend the Desktop onto this Display, as opposed to Clone the Original Display, (not tried Cloning the Display, don't know if that works)

O.K, I've refitted the HD4650

O.K, I've refitted the HD4650 into my XP3200 Win XP host,
If you Right click on the Desktop, and select Properties, this brings up Display properties, now go to the Settings Tab,
This will display a Number of Monitors, the number depends on the number of outputs your GPU's have,
mine shows 3 monitors, the 1st and 3rd are for the HD4650, while the second is for the 8400 GS,
to extend the Desktop onto your Nvidia select the Monitor that says something like 'Display 2: Default Monitor on 8400 GS'
then just Tick the Box that says 'Extend my Windows desktop onto this Monitor' and O.K, then Restart Boinc,

Yes Claggy, that's it. It works well.
Somehow, Win did it on that computer "itself", and just resets was needed so that boinc could find both gpus.
Anyway, thank you so much, this is the way how to run on one gpu (integrated) while the second one is used only for crunching.
