Of course ! Brilliant. Better graphics to demonstrate all that 3D imagery that we get these days.
IMHO it'll be Ferrari, as they seen to have the new layout well sorted. Sadly all the general admission tickets were sold out quick slick and I'm not quite connected enough to get a tent invite. I need to treat someone famous for something non-lethal, preferably with a good outcome.
Cheers, Mike.

I think it will be close between Red bull and Ferrari but I'm thinking Red Bull although I would prefer it if Ferrari won.
And yes you do, just go out to the safari parks and offer your services for a week and you should get some rich person doing something exceedingly stupid like trying to pet an elephant or lion or even box a kangaroo.
Nvidiaddiction huh ? But like oxygen you've gotta breathe, am I right ? ;-)
As for motherboards suitable for a 3080 : the ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming seems to be a reasonable choice I think. Pop a water cooled AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen ( AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3955WX anyone ? ) and some decent memory. Should keep the UPS up for Factorio nicely .....
{ Well, Ferrari and Red Bull both did alright in the end. I now know someone who knocked back a seat in the Heineken tent where the drivers eat ! What the .... ?! }
Cheers, Mike.

Ummm.... You can't run a Threadripper CPU on an X570 motherboard. Need a Threadripper MB.
Perhaps a GIGABYTE TRX40 AORUS Xtreme (sTRX/AMD/TRX40/

Yes, of course. One of those. My bad, I crossed my streams. My thanks for the correction.
So accounting advice received sez that under $20K AUD won't raise any eyebrows, so plenty of headroom. I have a cunning perfectly legal plan : to write off the cost over two financial years or even instantly, instead of the typical 4 to 5. Thoughts anyone ? I won't hold you to account. :-)

To visualise, using proprietary (but OpenGL based ) software, 3D anatomical models generated from scanning data. This is done through a secure client-server arrangement.
It would do E@H work when not otherwise used, so multi core would be the go I think.
It would be nice to have the option of adding other video cards later for crunching, plus naturally the occasional video game like Factorio or Kerbal Space Program.
Cheers, Mike.

Are you going to have decent network speeds through your VPN to the visual data server?
Standard 1Gbps network connection or something higher? Compressed data I'm sure.
Can you make use of higher LAN speeds with a 2.5Gbps or 10Gbps port. That would push you to the workstation or server class of the Threadripper platform.
Also have enough memory and storage for the decompression of the images.
Last time I helped set up a workstation for doctor friend that needed to review offsite MRI and CT scan data, the network connection was the slowest part of the exchange.
I'm sure the software has improved in the past 20 years, probably can look at the image data on the fly in the latest applications.

What will be the system's intended purpose?
A single 3080/90(Ti) can be supported on either the X570 or X399/sTRX40 platforms with no issues.
Any cpu computing contemplated which benefits from more cores?
Or is the system going to be gpu focused with multiple gpus which benefits from the more capable PCIE of the sTRX40 platform?

Speedy SSD storage would be a boon also today.
